Spring Break During COVID-19: How to Stay Safe & Still Have Fun

by Briana

Congratulations to all of the college students! You made it to spring break; now it is time to take the week for yourself! As a college student myself I cannot begin to explain how relieved I am that we finally made it here with the crazy school year we have been having. A year ago this week the national shutdown was beginning and the stay at home order began. Even though facilities are starting to open again we still need to practice COVID-19 safety regulations. Spring break is a time to relax and have fun! Here are some ways to have fun and relax during spring break.

Fun things to while being COVID-19 Safe

  1. Going to the Outside

Being inside or working all day can be without a doubt mentally frustrating at times. It is always a good thing to go outside and get some fresh air along with vitamin D. Some fun activities you can do while being outside is yoga, going for a walk (get your steps in baby), meditating, fishing (if there is a pond), playing a sport with people who live in your household, going on a picnic, playing an instrument, or even laying down on the grass being one with the earth. These fun activities can be done at any location; could be at a park, beach, or forest. While heading out doing these fun activities please remember to stay at least 6 feet away from others; if you are near others wear a mask to protect yourself and others.

  1. Finding a new passion!

While taking this week to mentally relax about life, it is a great time to take an advantage on finding a new passion. You can be arts and crafty with learning how to paint on picture frames like the new TikTok trend or learn mellowed vibes by playing an instrument. The opportunities are endless with a touch of a button. Personally, I recently purchased a Ukulele since it was on sale. Even though my passion is dancing, and I love dancing in my living room. I wanted to open my horizons to learn something new. Watching YouTube videos helped along the way on learning how to tune, play chords, and learn short songs. Keep in mind of the saying of, “practice makes perfect” because it is difficult to master a new skill; all that matters is you are trying and having fun along the way.

  1. Traveling Safely

Okay guys it is completely understandable if you are tired of seeing the same scenery ever since the lockdown happened. Here are some tips and ideas for safe traveling. If you are starting to miss some friends, a fun way to hang out with them, aside from Zoom meetings, is getting an inexpensive Airbnb and spending the weekend there! Have whoever is invited take a COVID-19 test prior to make sure everyone is safe and healthy. After that it is pretty much self-explanatory. Play games, make memories, sight see, overall, just be safe by wearing your mask and stay 6 feet away from others that are not in your immediate party!
